Ok the former #1 router WRT150N is now the repeater bridge in detached office. Worky?
-
@jonkulp yes! :)
-
@jonkulp booyah!
-
It seems a little quicker accessing that photo on your server than it did before.
-
@jezra super easy. :)
-
@jpope possible. Now it's two Wireless N routers communicating instead of wireless N (main) with wireless G (bridge).
-
@jpope yes I think you're right, does seem snappier. I like!
-
@jonkulp good to know. I'll be asking for some advice when I set up a bridge/repeater at my Mom's place. Her Wifi is crap.
-
@jezra there are bunch of config settings to do, key is doing all beforehand, then putting it into place. I used dd-wrt wiki instructions.
-
@jonkulp good idea, now I need to find 2 ddwrt compatible wireless routers. Configure them at home, and install when I visit next
-
@jezra do you already have a router for this? I could send you one of my spare wireless G routers if it would suffice.
-
@jezra you need 2? Does she not have a main router already?
-
@jezra I could send you my WRT54G already loaded with dd-wrt. You wouldn't have fun of flashing firmware though. It's totally fun!
-
@jonkulp not yet. I need to hit the thrift stores... in some other town.
-
@jonkulp she does, but if I'm going to set up and test the configuration at my place, I'll need two.
-
@nybill ...or two
-
@nybill and waffles!
-
@jonkulp That won't be necessary, I should be able to find *something* at a thrift store. I'll let you know how it goes.
-
@kevingranade The waffles! How could I forget.
-
@jezra Ok man lemme know, the offer stands. :)
-
@nybill :D
-
@nybill @kevingranade of course the waffles, and a big ol' vat of gumbo too, cher.
-
@jonkulp I'll try to check some Berkeley thrift tomorrow.
-
@jonkulp I'll get an RV and stay at the Moose lodge
-
@jezra good call, seems like the Bay Area would have tons of great stuff.
-
@jezra I hope you intend to pick me up on the way by with said RV!
-
@jonkulp but there are a lot of people who know the value of the stuff
-
@jezra you gotta get there first. :)
-
@jezra you should be able to configure the bridge to work with your own router, then just adjust IP addy & essid for hers.
-
@jonkulp don't both routers need to be setup for bridging? I'll still need to flash ddwrt onto her current router.
-
@jonkulp the only thrift stores I know of in Berkeley are very close to the University. Damn rat bastard students pick it clean. vultures.
-
@jasonriedy thanks. I'll be heading over there after lunch.
-
@jezra It's where I picked up my West Bend Poppery. Still using that as my coffee roaster. ;)
-
@jasonriedy you roast your own? fucking sweet!
-
@jezra I’ve been reaaalllly wanting to get into roasting my own coffee. Need to get off my ass and do it. ;)
-
@jezra no, only one needs to be bridge, and main one can just run its normal firmware. I set one up for my dad & mailed it. Worked
-
@jezra you just need her main router's internal IP address (like 192.168.1.1) and its essid. No config to do on that end.
-
@jonkulp awesome. When I get a new router, I can use my current router as the bridge.
-
...you know, this would be a much better alternative to my current "Ethernet up the stairs" topology...
-
@jezra exactly! Very nice plan. :)
