@nybill All Cisco/Linksys products will be immediately removed from my home network and those of my sons. Thanks!

@nybill Big thanks for pointing it out. Wonder if other brands does the same? Creepy.

@lnxwalt280 I'm looking to see if mine is effected. Strangely, I can't log into it! I just paid over $100 for this thing!

@nybill That's shit. At least you can opt out.

@nybill leave em alone, if they wanna kill future sales of their product ranges, it's up to them

@nybill @lnwalt280 isn’t that for Cisco Connect Cloud not regular use of the router?

Opt out always seemed like a weaselly legal loophole to me - especially with those marketing privacy statements I keep getting.

@parlementum I'm certain that new equipment will push users to sign up, even if older equipment can't force you to "upgrade" to spyware.

@windigo This reminds me, I'm in the market for a router, is there a home router that stands out as being FOSS friendly?

    • johnnynull johnnynull

@windigo Totally agree. Then you've got the nifty retroactive opt-outs, a la Buzz.

@johnnynull oh didn't see that. Who would opt in! 'Here its a cool new thingy. But we have to put a camera in your house."

I'm with ya. I did know one old woman that would go for it. Very wealthy, crazy frugal, but she was up for being marketed to. #crazy

@nybill @linuxwalt280 Ok, I got in my router. The "cloud" page doesn't pop up. I don't know if thats due to my model (e4200) or Linux.

Buffalo Routers (at least the ones I deal with) come with a modified version of DD-WRT, which are pretty good...

@nybill B/c of weird shaped house, there are 3 routers in use here, not counting the one Verizon owns. Zero of those are Linksys.

    • lnxwalt (lnxwalt280) lnxwalt (lnxwalt280)

@nybill I did notice that Verizon keeps resetting passwords and DNS on its router, so that's what I expect Linksys users have ahead of them.

      @kevingranade I've got a netgear WNR3500L - N network - gigbbit wan and lan and runs dd-wrt, open-wrt or tomato

@windigo hmm, now that I think of it, I was planning on making one of my servers into a router/DMZ/etc and making the routers into APs.

@lnxwalt280 I know the feeling, I have to do port forwarding and tunneling inside my LAN to get some of the computers to talk to each other.
